When she passed out of sight, he walked to the door. He would wait on the porch; maybe the fresh air would calm what he was feeling.”

“Nothing surprised Vince in this war, but he swallowed hard when he heard the news about Jan [the espionage agent] and the others. By now, they would already be in Berlin. ... Despite his mild appearance, he was obviously entrusted with the secrets of the kingdom… Someone was dirty within the inner circle and it was his job to find out whom. Vince asked an obvious question. ‘Mr. Petrie, if what you say is true, then you are trusting me with information few people have access to. Why?’”
